WHO Takes Action Against Sheikh Hasina’s Daughter

The World Health Organization (WHO) has taken action against Saima Wazed, daughter of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently facing allegations of corruption. The WHO has placed Saima Wazed on leave.
Wazed serves as the Regional Director for the South-East Asia Region of the WHO. The organization confirmed that Saima is currently on leave, and during this period, Dr. Katharina Boehme will serve as the acting official.
The WHO has not provided a specific reason for placing Wazed on leave and stated that it has no further comments on the matter at this time. Dr. Boehme is expected to arrive at the WHO SEARO office in New Delhi on July 15.
Welcoming the WHO’s decision to place Wazed on indefinite leave amid ongoing investigations into serious allegations of fraud, forgery, and abuse of power, the press secretary to Bangladesh’s interim advisors, Shafiqul Alam, called it an important first step towards accountability.
