Indian media have reported that names of Nepali citizens have been found in the voter list of the Indian state of Bihar.

This year, Bihar is set to hold its Legislative Assembly elections. Ahead of the elections, the Election Commission of India is currently verifying the voter list.

During this process, officials have revealed that along with citizens from Bangladesh and Myanmar, a significant number of Nepali nationals have also been found in the list.

According to them, after proper verification of such individuals post August 1, the final voter list—scheduled to be published on September 30—will exclude the names of illegal immigrants.

At present, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are going door-to-door to conduct enumeration and surveys.

The current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly ends on November 22, 2025.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) must complete the election process before this date.

The election is likely to be held in October or November 2025 and may take place in two or three phases.

However, the Election Commission has not yet officially announced the election dates.
