Nepal: Acting General Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal, C.P. Gajurel, has called upon all communist parties in Nepal to unite and launch a collective struggle for the establishment of a People’s Republic.

Speaking at an interaction organized by the Kathmandu district committee of the party at Sangbad Dabali in the capital on Tuesday, Gajurel accused Prachanda and Baburam of betraying the revolution, which, according to him, led to its failure.

While commenting on the working paper titled “Federal People’s Republic as an Alternative to the Puppet Parliamentary System” presented by Kathmandu District Secretary Kedar Khatiwada, Gajurel stated that the subject matter was raised appropriately in light of the current context.

Gajurel blamed regressive and bourgeois forces for the current instability in the country, arguing, “When Prachanda and Baburam compromised in favor of bourgeois democratic republic, they betrayed the great 10-year People’s War. If we had been able to establish a People’s Republic through revolution, neither the regressive royalist ghost would have resurfaced, nor would the comprador capitalists be leading the country toward failure.”

He also expressed readiness to coordinate and, if necessary, unite with all divided Maoist factions and those in favor of a federal people’s republic, including the Maoist party led by Prachanda.

Chairperson of the Nepal Communist Party, Loknarayan Subedi, shared his views on the working paper, saying it seeks alternatives. He expressed optimism that the Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal would take initiatives by introducing programs and strategies focused on nationalism, democracy, and people’s livelihoods. “We must now engage in discussions on whether the upcoming policies and programs will ensure democratic federalism,” he said.

Ram Prakash Puri, spokesperson of the Nepal Communist Party (Mashal), said although the working paper gave a good historical account, it lacked clarity on what should be done now, what the current program is, and the roadmap toward achieving a federal people’s republic.

Shambhu Kattel, Vice-Chairperson of the Nepal Communist Party (Rishi Kattel faction), also remarked that although the paper was good, the path to achieving political goals remained unclear.

Rajkumar Hingwang, Central Committee member of the Scientific Socialist Communist Party, emphasized the need for broad discussions and review regarding the federal people’s republic.

Chiranjibi Sil, Central Member of the Nepal Communist Party (Biplav faction), said the paper clearly provided an alternative, adding, “Capitalism has presented its alternative, but the communists have not yet been able to present theirs. Therefore, unity among communists is essential.”

Presenter of the working paper and Central Committee member of the Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal, Kedar Khatiwada, discussed several sub-topics, including: The Objective of the People’s War Was Not Parliamentary System, What Was the Public Sentiment of the 2006 People’s Movement?, The Nature of the Puppet Parliamentary Republic, Current Crisis in Livelihood, and Federal People’s Republic as Today’s Necessity.

The program was conducted by Central Member Peshal Dahal and the welcome remarks were delivered by fellow Central Member Bandhudev Pandey.
