Dipesh Shrestha, Kathmandu:  Bhupendra Rai, the Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development and Health of Koshi Province in eastern Nepal, is emerging as one of the most active and popular leaders in the province. A seasoned politician from the Nepali Congress, Rai has won the hearts of the people through his efficiency and people-oriented initiatives.

His political journey began within the organized structure of the Nepali Congress. Starting from student politics, he has served in various capacities within the party. Known for his integrity and clean image, Rai is widely respected as a policy-driven leader. He holds a strong grip over politics from the local level to the central structure of the party.

Since assuming the ministerial role, Rai has prioritized infrastructure development and healthcare services, launching dozens of initiatives. Notably, rapid progress has been made in the construction of roads, bridges, drinking water projects, and health posts, especially in remote areas.

To reduce traffic congestion in Biratnagar, a “Ring Road” project has been proposed. Similarly, significant upgrades have been made to hospitals in districts like Morang, Sunsari, and Ilam—covering both hilly and Terai regions. Services such as X-ray machines, dialysis, and ambulance expansion are being effectively implemented.

Rai has pledged to practice a results-oriented political style. In one interview, he remarked, “Politics is a means to serve the people, not to enjoy the taste of power.” In line with this commitment, he has emphasized transparency, monitoring, and quality in ministerial work.

His popularity among the public is growing steadily. His approach—focusing on road expansion, extending healthcare services to villages, and completing projects on time—has sparked hope among citizens.

Rai’s honesty, dedication to work, and determination to implement even more effective programs in the future have set Koshi Province (formerly Province No. 1) on a dynamic path toward development.
