UN says over 1.3 million displaced Sudanese have returned home

The United Nations has reported that more than 1.3 million people displaced by the ongoing conflict in Sudan have now returned to their homes. The UN has also appealed to the international community for necessary support to facilitate their resettlement and reconstruction, according to international news agency AFP.
In a joint statement, UN agencies dealing with migration, refugees, and development stated that over one million internally displaced persons have returned to their homes within Sudan, while nearly 320,000 people have come back from neighboring Egypt and South Sudan.
Although the impact of the conflict has decreased in some areas, the overall situation remains extremely fragile, the UN noted. Since April 2023, the power struggle between Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and paramilitary commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has pushed the country into a severe humanitarian crisis. Thousands have been killed, and millions displaced due to the fighting.
