Suman Bishwakarma, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia : Nepali Congress youth leader and former mayoral candidate of Bhangaha Municipality (Mahottari), Vijay Mandal ‘Birju,’ has been honored with the Top Business Entrepreneur Award 2025 at a special ceremony held in Malaysia.

The award was presented to Mandal by the Private Secretary Officer (PSO) of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim during an event organized by the Youth United Council of India. The ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent entrepreneurs, diplomats, social activists, and industrialists from Malaysia, India, Nepal, and other countries.

According to the organizers, Mandal was recognized for “balancing business success and social responsibility in a foreign land while remaining dedicated to community service.”

Turning Defeat into Determination

In 2079 BS, Mandal had contested for the post of Mayor of Bhangaha Municipality as a Nepali Congress candidate. Despite receiving massive public support, he lost the election by a narrow margin due to alleged political interference and irregularities during the vote count.

Rather than being disheartened by political defeat, Mandal redirected his energy into the business sector. Having operated private businesses in Malaysia for over a decade, he established himself as a successful entrepreneur through perseverance, integrity, and vision. His recognition serves as an inspiration to Nepali youths and migrant entrepreneurs, symbolizing hope and motivation for the entire Nepali diaspora.

While receiving the award, Mandal stated, “This award is not just mine; it belongs to the entire Nepali community. It makes me proud to show that even abroad, we can uphold Nepal’s identity, dignity, and contributions.”

Growing Support for Local Leadership

Back in Bhangaha, public trust in Mandal remains strong. Locals believe he may run again in the upcoming municipal elections, with hopes that his leadership will transform Bhangaha into a model municipality recognized both nationally and internationally.

Mandal’s involvement in politics, business, and social service demonstrates that integrity, vision, and dedication can earn recognition and respect anywhere. His journey stands as a collective source of inspiration for Nepali youth worldwide.

A Self-Made Business Success

Vijay Mandal began his entrepreneurial journey in Malaysia with modest means, expanding his ventures into employment services, supply chain management, and the restaurant business. Today, dozens of Nepali youths are employed through his enterprises, fostering a sense of self-reliance within the Nepali migrant community.

Beyond business, Mandal has actively engaged in community service, organizing blood donation drives, rescue operations, and health camps. During his political campaign, he envisioned a “Good Governance, Prosperous, and Inclusive Bhangaha,” with the slogan: “Healthy Bhangaha, Educated Bhangaha, Employment-Oriented Bhangaha.” His positive, issue-focused approach to politics won the admiration of many, as he avoided personal attacks on rivals.

A Message to Nepali Migrants

After receiving the award, Mandal delivered an emotional message to Nepali youths working abroad:
“Wherever you are working, consider that country your second home. Uphold honesty and discipline in your workplace. Love, hard work, and dedication are always respected. Prove that Nepalis are capable, and cherish the dream of returning home to contribute to Nepal’s future.”

Rooted in His Hometown

Though now a well-established businessman in Malaysia, Mandal’s heart remains tied to his birthplace, Bhangaha. Locals recall his 2079 BS vision and leadership style fondly, vowing to ensure past electoral injustices are not repeated. Many believe he will return with a renewed plan for Bhangaha’s development and prosperity.

Vijay Mandal ‘Birju’ is no longer just a businessman or a political figure; he embodies community, struggle, and potential. His recognition in Malaysia adds another brick to Nepal’s international image and signals a stronger role for the Nepali diaspora in shaping the country’s future.
