Train Accident in Germany: Three Dead, Dozens Injured

A passenger train derailed near Riedlingen in southwest Germany, killing at least three people and leaving many others seriously injured. According to German police, the accident occurred at 6:10 p.m. local time on Sunday.

Deutsche Bahn, the rail service provider, stated that the accident happened due to “unknown reasons.” Reports mentioned that a storm had hit the area shortly before the incident.

There were around 100 passengers onboard. According to the German news agency DPA, at least two carriages were found overturned in a forested area. A large number of firefighters and emergency teams were deployed for the rescue operation, and fallen trees were also seen at the site.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his condolences to the victims and deep sympathy to their families in a post on X. He instructed the interior and transport ministers to coordinate closely and provide all necessary support for the rescue services.

According to Ulm police, initial investigations confirmed three fatalities and several passengers with severe injuries. Deutsche Bahn stated that the train was operating on the 90-kilometer route between Sigmaringen and Ulm.
