U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he has ordered the deployment of nuclear submarines. According to international media reports, Trump issued this warning to Russia following threats made by Russian Security Council chief Dmitry Medvedev.

Through his Truth Social account, Trump stated that he had directed the deployment of nuclear submarines in strategic locations. “Based on Medvedev’s provocative statements, I have ordered two nuclear submarines to remain deployed in appropriate regions,” Trump wrote.

Medvedev had warned Trump to “watch his words” after the U.S. president threatened to raise tariffs on Russia and those purchasing Russian oil as a punitive measure. Medvedev stated that Trump’s rhetoric and behavior had brought the U.S.–Russia conflict “one step closer to war.”

According to CNN, Trump had given Russia a 10-day ultimatum to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine. Failing that, he warned he would raise tariffs on Russia and penalize anyone buying oil from the country.

In response, Medvedev dismissed Trump’s threats as “nothing more than a game of ultimatums,” adding, “Such threats only bring Russia and the United States one step closer to war.”

Following this exchange, Reuters reported that Trump and Medvedev have been engaged in a “war of words” on social media. Trump even called Medvedev a “failed president,” referring to his past tenure as Russia’s head of state.

On social media, Trump wrote, “The failed former president Medvedev still thinks he’s president. Tell him to watch his words. He’s stepping into a very dangerous zone.” Medvedev later responded by reminding Trump that Russia still possesses Soviet-era weapons.

“Trump needs to understand how dangerous ‘Dead Hand’ can be,” Medvedev said, referring to Russia’s secret semi-automated nuclear retaliation system. “It’s designed to launch nuclear missiles even if the entire Russian leadership is wiped out in a first strike.”

Following Medvedev’s remarks, Trump said he had given orders to keep nuclear submarines deployed. The U.S. Defense Department and Navy have not commented on Trump’s statements. However, analysts noted that such submarines are typically deployed regardless of whether the president announces it or not.

They also pointed out that U.S. nuclear submarines are usually kept in highly classified locations, with their positions never publicly disclosed.
