Interactive Gathering Between Security Workers and Trade Union

Dikendra Basnet/ DineshRaj Kharel Nepal: The Nepal Security Workers’ Trade Union, an organization advocating for the rights of workers in Nepal’s private security sector, organized an interactive gathering among employees of G-Force Security Service on Saturday in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The event was jointly organized by the Nepal Independent Outsourced Workers’ Trade Union and G-Force Security, focusing on important discussions regarding labor rights.
Addressing the gathering, Prem Bahadur Karki, President of the Nepal Security Workers’ Trade Union, declared the union’s readiness to appeal to the International Human Rights Commission to ensure workers’ rights and welfare. He emphasized the need to raise a strong voice against violations of labor rights taking place under the guise of the Public Procurement Act through the contract system.
Union Vice President Uddhav Prasad Dahal highlighted examples of favorable court verdicts in favor of workers, stating that although delayed, justice is now being served. He mentioned that due to the union’s continued efforts, many workers have received justice, while some contractors have even fled to avoid accountability.
General Secretary Bed Prasad Humagain shared that he had given up university benefits worth 2 million NPR to dedicate himself to the labor cause, expressing no regret over his decision. He noted that his active involvement has increased job security and livelihood guarantees for workers. He also stressed the need for more worker participation in the organization and urged everyone to join the movement.
The event was also attended by Purna Bahadur Thapa, Central General Secretary of the Nepal Independent Outsourced Workers’ Organization; Lalit Bahadur Khatri, President of the Kathmandu chapter; and several other labor leaders. On the occasion, membership cards were distributed to more than 20 security personnel.
Around 80 security workers actively participated in the gathering. The program was conducted by labor leader Bhola Basnet and chaired by Sher Bahadur Basnet, Chairman of G-Force Security Service.
