India’s Strong Response to the US and European Union on Oil Imports

India has officially responded to the questions raised by the United States and the European Union (EU) regarding its oil imports from Russia.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, expressed India’s position through a post on social media platform X.
According to a report by BBC Hindi, he stated that since the beginning of the Ukraine war, the US and EU have been targeting India over its oil imports from Russia.
India responded by saying that it started importing oil from Russia after traditional supply routes were diverted toward Europe due to the war.
The Indian side further clarified that during the war, the US itself encouraged India to import oil in order to maintain stability in the global oil market.
India emphasized that importing oil is essential to ensure affordable and stable energy for its consumers and is a necessity shaped by the condition of the global market.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, trade between Europe and Russia is not limited to energy. It also includes minerals, chemicals, iron, steel, machinery, and transport equipment.
Speaking about the US, spokesperson Jaiswal accused it of still importing uranium hexafluoride from Russia for its nuclear industry.
He also mentioned that materials and chemicals essential for the electric vehicle industry are still being imported by the US from Russia.
Therefore, targeting India in this regard is unfair and unreasonable, Jaiswal clearly stated, as reported.
