Broad Polarization Necessary for Socialist Revolution: Biplav C

Kathmandu : General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party, Biplav C, has stated that broad polarization is necessary for a socialist revolution. Speaking at a book launch event held at Sangbad Dabali in the capital on Sunday, Biplav remarked that while Nepalese society is drifting away from political discourse, the two newly launched books contribute to the revival of principled ideological debate.
Biplav emphasized that the books “Communist Democracy” by Krishnahari Bhatt and “Communist Socialism” by Khem Thapaliya are deeply researched works, which should be mandatorily read, especially by the youth and those involved in the communist movement. He also criticized the current regime, alleging that it and its leaders are leaning toward fascism.
At the event, Nepal Communist Party Chairman Rishi Kattel stressed that a principled restructuring of the Nepalese communist movement is essential for revolution. He mentioned that among the two launched books, Communist Democracy lays the ideological foundation for the Nepalese revolution. He further clarified that Communist Socialism and Communist Democracy are not contradictory concepts but complementary ones, as communist socialism is attainable only through communist revolution.
Author of Communist Democracy, Krishnahari Bhatt, stated that without a transformation in the mode of production, systemic change is not possible. He said, “The changes that have occurred in Nepal so far have failed to alter the production system. As only political relations have changed, each struggle concluded with quantitative change rather than qualitative transformation—leading to social directionlessness and distortion.”
Khem Thapaliya, author of Communist Socialism, expressed that the current movement is fragmented into different socialist strands, and this book aims to provide correct guidance amid such divisions.
Keshav Prasad Parajuli, Managing Director of Bhundipurana Publications, remarked that in recent times, political leaders and activists have stopped reading books. He urged everyone to read these two important publications.
Commentators Ram Bahadur Budha and Krishna Wagley ‘Rupesh’ noted that Communist Democracy and Communist Socialism are not opposing ideologies. They pointed out that these concepts have recently been portrayed as antagonistic, even though societal development always progresses in a sequential manner. They expressed belief that these books would help clarify confusion within the Nepalese communist movement and push it forward.
The event was also attended by NCP Vice Chairperson R.B. Bhandari, Dr. Bhagwan Chandra Gyawali, economist Prof. Dr. Keshav Raj Khadka, Member Secretary of the Ichchhuk Cultural Foundation Modnath Marhatha, Sarala Regmi, and other party leaders.
