GNN, NEW YORK — Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay addressed the General Debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) at the UN Headquarters in New York, highlighting Bhutan’s development vision, sustainability and opportunities for international investment.

In his address, Prime Minister Tobgay conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty the King of Bhutan to world leaders gathered at the General Assembly. He also presented Bhutan’s priorities and development aspirations to the international community.

A key focus of his address was the Gelephu Mindfulness City, a major development initiative envisioned to balance economic prosperity with environmental and social sustainability. Tobgay extended an open invitation to international investors and world leaders to participate in the development of the project.

The Prime Minister’s presentation also placed considerable emphasis on Bhutan’s economic potential and investment opportunities. His appeal at the UN platform sought to position Bhutan as a destination for sustainable investment while promoting its distinctive development approach.

Before addressing the General Debate, Tobgay co-hosted and delivered a keynote address at the high-level event titled “Beyond 2030: Renewing the Global Commitment to End Poverty in All Its Dimensions.” The event focused on renewing global efforts to eradicate poverty and advance sustainable development beyond the 2030 Agenda.

On the sidelines of UNGA81, Prime Minister Tobgay also held bilateral meetings with foreign leaders. In the morning, he met Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President To Lam of Viet Nam, with discussions forming part of Bhutan’s diplomatic engagements during the high-level UN gathering.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly has brought world leaders together to discuss global challenges including poverty eradication, sustainable development, international cooperation and climate-related concerns. Bhutan has used the platform to present its development vision while seeking broader international engagement in sustainable economic initiatives.
