Kathmandu — The National Christian Federation Nepal (FNCN) has strongly objected to remarks made in the House of Representatives and demanded action against Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Khushbu Oli.

In an attention letter addressed to Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, FNCN President Rev. Uddhav Prasad Chimoriya stated that the remarks delivered by Oli during the parliamentary session had seriously hurt the religious sentiments and social dignity of the Christian community.

The federation stated that making derogatory comments targeting any community in a dignified institution such as Parliament was unfortunate. The letter further noted that Nepal, as a multi-religious, multicultural and inclusive nation, must ensure equal respect for all religions and communities.

According to the federation, Oli’s repeated statements have promoted negative perceptions against Christians, disturbed social harmony and undermined religious tolerance. It said the latest remarks made in Parliament compelled the organisation to formally raise the issue.

FNCN has urged the Speaker to remove the remarks from the parliamentary record, seek a public apology from the lawmaker and take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The federation also stressed that all sides must uphold the constitutional guarantees of religious freedom, human rights and national unity.Doc1
