Beijing, China – Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shishir Khanal, has called on Chinese investors to expand their engagement in Nepal and contribute to building a new chapter of “trans-Himalayan prosperity” through enhanced economic cooperation and investment.

Addressing an investment conference organised by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing on Tuesday during his four-day official visit to China, Minister Khanal highlighted Nepal’s growing economic opportunities and demographic advantages, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating a more competitive and business-friendly investment environment.

According to the Nepali Embassy, the foreign minister underscored Nepal’s strategic location between two of the world’s largest economies and emphasised the country’s efforts to strengthen investment policies, improve infrastructure, and facilitate private-sector growth. He encouraged Chinese businesses to explore opportunities across key sectors of the Nepali economy and become partners in the country’s long-term development journey.

The investment conference, organised with the objective of promoting Chinese investment in Nepal, brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, and potential investors from various sectors. During the event, representatives from the Investment Board Nepal delivered presentations outlining investment prospects in areas such as energy, tourism, infrastructure, manufacturing, information technology, and sustainable development.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Khanal held interactions with Chinese entrepreneurs, corporate representatives, and investors to discuss potential avenues for bilateral economic cooperation and investment partnerships.

Earlier on Tuesday, Khanal met with Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, in Beijing. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nepal and China and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

According to the embassy, both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady development of bilateral relations and exchanged views on promoting deeper engagement in trade, investment, connectivity, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

As part of his official programme, the foreign minister also visited the historic White Dagoba (White Stupa) at Miaoying Temple. The monument, designed by Nepal’s renowned 13th-century architect Araniko, stands as a lasting symbol of Nepal–China friendship and cultural exchange.

Minister Khanal described the monument as a testament to Nepal’s rich architectural heritage, artistic excellence, and historical contribution to cross-cultural relations in Asia. He noted that Araniko’s legacy continues to serve as an enduring bridge connecting the peoples of Nepal and China.

The foreign minister also participated in an interaction programme with representatives of Chinese and international media organisations, where he shared Nepal’s perspectives on foreign policy, Nepal–China relations, the priorities of Nepal’s newly formed government, and the country’s engagement with the international community.

Khanal arrived in Beijing on Sunday at the invitation of Wang Yi, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The visit is viewed as part of ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen diplomatic ties, expand economic cooperation, and advance mutually beneficial partnerships amid evolving regional and global economic dynamics.

Minister Khanal is scheduled to conclude his visit and return to Nepal on Wednesday.
