WASHINGTON — A 19-year-old U.S. Army soldier, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton, Texas, was killed during an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Pentagon identified Gonzales as one of the service members stationed at the base in support of the U.S.-led mission against the Islamic State (ISIS). Officials said she was defending her assigned post when the attack struck, resulting in her death.

Following the incident, the Pentagon released Gonzales’ official military portrait, showing the young Army private in camouflage uniform against the backdrop of the American flag. Military leaders honored her service and sacrifice, describing her as a dedicated soldier who died while carrying out her duty.
