Prime Minister Balen Shah Expresses Grief Over Sunsari Violence, Pledges Legal Action Against Those Responsible and Justice for Victims

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balen Shah has expressed deep sorrow over the violent incident that occurred in the Dewanganj area of Sunsari district in eastern Nepal. He paid heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured. The Prime Minister has assured that the government will ensure justice, provide compensation to the victims and take legal action against those found responsible.
In a statement shared through his official Facebook account, Prime Minister Shah said that he was deeply saddened by the developments in Sunsari, not only as the head of the government but also as a citizen of the country. He stated that it was extremely unfortunate that a situation which began with a minor dispute escalated into violence, resulting in loss of lives and creating fear, mistrust and tension within society.
Prime Minister Shah acknowledged that the government had been actively working since the beginning of the incident, but admitted that the response was not sufficient to prevent the situation from deteriorating. He said that the loss of a citizen’s life and injuries caused by security personnel’s firing cannot be considered a normal incident. He further informed that an investigation has already begun and those responsible would face legal action in accordance with the law.
The Prime Minister said that the government would use all available resources to ensure that the victims and their families receive justice. He also stated that necessary decisions would be implemented immediately after reviewing the incident thoroughly to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
Urging citizens to remain calm and patient, Prime Minister Shah appealed to everyone not to be influenced by anger, revenge or provocation. He emphasised the importance of maintaining social harmony, mutual respect and humanity beyond religious, ethnic or communal divisions.
“Humanity’s first responsibility is to protect human life, and the government’s foremost duty is to ensure the safety of its citizens, take action against offenders, and provide justice and compensation to the victims,” Prime Minister Shah said.
He further appealed to citizens to avoid any activities that could increase tension and urged everyone to stay safe, maintain restraint and promote love, respect and social harmony.
The Sunsari incident, which occurred in the Dewanganj area, had created tension between communities, leading to clashes, casualties and injuries. The government has stated that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway and further action will be taken based on the findings.Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balen Shah has expressed deep sorrow over the violent incident that occurred in the Dewanganj area of Sunsari district in eastern Nepal.
