Kathmandu: The Royal Government of Bhutan has contributed INR 100 million (Indian Rupees 100 million) to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in support of relief and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating floods of 26 August.

The contribution was made upon the Royal Command of His Majesty the King of Bhutan as a gesture of solidarity and friendship with the Government and people of Nepal, who have been severely affected by the disaster. The floods resulted in significant loss of life and extensive damage to property and infrastructure in several parts of the country.

H.E. Major General Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to Nepal, handed over the contribution cheque to Dr Surendra Thapa, Charge d’Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi. The contribution reflects the longstanding friendship and close relations between Bhutan and Nepal.

The Royal Government and people of Bhutan have expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by the disaster. Bhutan has also reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Nepal and conveyed its sincere wishes for the swift recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected communities.

The contribution is expected to support the Government of Nepal’s ongoing efforts to provide relief, assistance and rehabilitation to communities affected by the devastating floods.
